Salt and Light

Matthew 5:13-14 calls us the salt of the earth, and the light of the world.  We demonstrate salt by fighting against sin-wanting nothing to do with it, and light by fighting for justice and truth-wanting everything to do with it.

Being salt [13] can be as simple as rebuking your friend when he or she makes an unnecessary comment (Luke 17:3), or not choosing to hang out with the wrong crowd (Taking a stand?) (Matthew 7:13-14).   Maybe you can't always be salt in a big way but it's still important (Small hard things?).

Now lets talk a little bit about how we can exemplify light [14](Ephesians 4:17-32).  Encouraging others, standing up for what you believe in, living by the ten commandments, and sticking with the "right" crowd of believers that also do all of these things are all ways to be light to the world.  John 13:15 says that Jesus set an example for us, so we should also set an example for others.  I personally think that that is the best way to be light to others: Being an example of Christ, and living life like Jesus did-loving others unconditionally.
